Tasty Alternatives to Soda

Tasty Swaps

Following on from Mondays piece about the health issues of soda, some readers contacted me asking for some alternatives, so here's a page about whjat you could try intead:

When you try to cut back on soda, you’ll know it’s not just about the sugar — it’s also the fizz, the flavor, and the comfort that makes it so appealing. The good news? You don’t have to give it up without something delicious in return. Here are some healthier swaps that satisfy cravings while supporting your well-being:

1. Sparkling Water with Fruit

Add slices of orange, lemon, lime, or berries to sparkling water. You’ll get the fizz you love, plus natural flavor without the sugar rush.

2. Herbal Iced Tea

Brew herbal teas like peppermint, hibiscus, or chamomile, then chill them in the fridge. They’re naturally caffeine-free, hydrating, and come with calming benefits too.

3. Kombucha

This lightly fizzy, fermented tea comes in a range of flavors. It’s tangy, refreshing, and supports gut health — just check the label for low-sugar varieties.

4. Infused Water

Add cucumber, mint, ginger, or watermelon to still water for a spa-like drink that feels indulgent yet nourishing.

5. Coconut Water

Naturally sweet with a hint of tropical flavor, coconut water is refreshing and hydrating — perfect after a walk or light workout.

6. Homemade “Soda” Spritz

Mix half sparkling water with a splash of 100% fruit juice. You’ll cut the sugar dramatically but still enjoy a burst of flavor.

Tip: If soda has been your go-to comfort drink, start by swapping just one a day for one of these alternatives. Small steps make the biggest difference — and your body (and mind) will thank you.

Start small and work up to the final goal of replacing soda in your life.
