Adding 5 Minutes of Exercise to Your Day

6 methods you could use today

Some days are just total chaos, and things just aren’t turning out the way you planned it.

Even given the most chaotic of days though, you can still fit in a quick 5 minutes of exercise to make you feel better.

This also helps you to achieve the movement element of the pillars of our holistic plan. Remember the 4 pillars?

  1. Nutrition with Purpose - Not dieting. Not obsessing.
  2. Emotional Awareness - Feeling safe in your emotions.
  3. Movement That Feels Good – Move to reduce stress.
  4. Mindset and Belief Work - Rewire old beliefs and build a new self-compassionate story.

You could be surprised at the ways you can carve out 5 minutes of your time for some exercise, you might not think 5 minutes is enough – but it is!
Change your mindset; anything is better than nothing.

1. Walk and talk

Take a business phone call while walking up and down the stairs. You know the stairs you never take because you always ride the elevator? Time to change that.

2. Stretch it out

Sitting too much is bad for your health and can cause back problems. Get out of your seat and stretch your lower back, this can help reduce stiffness and prevent pain.

3. Go the distance

Hop off the bus a few stops earlier or park your car 5 minutes away from the office. Take that time in the morning to breathe in the fresh air and think positively about yourself.

4. Dance

Turn up the music (or put in your headphones so you don’t wake anyone up) and dance it out to a song or two when you wake up.  Don’t worry about what people might say, after all who’s watching at that time in the morning? I do this every morning, usually whilst listening to some 80’s music.

5. Go for a 5-minute walk

You might think ‘how far can I get in only 5 minutes?’, but small changes can mean a lot, and those 5 minutes per day could increase to 10, 30 or even more minutes once you start to enjoy it, go on, give it a go.

6. Play with your kids at the park

Don’t just sit on the park bench and watch while the kids have all the fun. Join them!
Have a go on the swings, go down the slide, run around in the sand, play tag…get dirty!
Life doesn’t have to be so organized and serious all the time.
Enjoy yourself and the time spent with the little ones!

The main point here is to remind you that you can fit exercise into any lifestyle.
Movement that feels good, the 3rd pillar, can be achieved by anyone at anytime, you don’t have to be running, jogging, doing squats, or any other ‘calorie burning’ exercises, you should be moving in a way that makes you feel good about yourself and your life.
